SERGIO AGÜERO TIPS TOTTENHAM TO BE A BIG THREAT IN EUROPE THIS SEASON
According to former Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero, Tottenham Hotspur are well-equipped for their Champions League campaign after their busy summer of transfer activity. Spurs prepare for their next game in the top tier of European football since the 2019/20 season, after getting a visit from French side Marseille on Wednesday night. The North London club recruited well this summer, bringing in the likes of Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic, and Richarlison to bolster an already strong squad. After an unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign this year, with four wins and two draws, Spurs currently lie in third place in the table. They are one of just two teams in the league who are still yet to be defeated, the other being Manchester City. Aguero, a legend in the blue half of Manchester, believes that with Conte at the helm and the quality of players in the Spurs squad, they can become a threat in the Champions League this year. The Premier League leaders were able to extend their long winning streak with a 3-1 win over the Toffees at Goodison Park. Manchester City had won their last 15 games in all competitions since the disappointing 1-1 draw at home to struggling West Brom in December. That game proved to be the last one for West Brommanager SlavenBilic, who was sacked despite the good result and was replaced by current Baggies boss Sam Allardyce.
The Sunday Telegraph reported that Manchester City have identified Benfica striker Darwin Nunez as a potential replacement for Sergio Aguero. He’s said to be one of the players under consideration at the Etihad Stadium. Nunez averaged one goal in two games for Almeria CF of Spain last season to help himself to a big money move to Portuguese giants Benfica in the summer. The former European champions paid £21.8m for the 21-year-old striker at the start of the season.
