GO WINDWARD SOCCER!

Windward’s soccer teams are having outstanding seasons, and the Varsity teams are gearing up for the playoffs. A special pizza party on Tuesday, February 8 will launch the teams before playoffs.

WINDWARD DEFEAT THE EAGLES

The Wildcat boys kick to a 1-0 victory over the top-ranked Eagles, but the girls soccer team loses.

When the referee’s whistle finally shrilled to signify the end of Tuesday's game, the Windward School boys soccer team celebrated--and with good reason.

The Wildcats managed to survive a barrage of shots in the second half to escape with a 1-0 Alpha League victory over a bigger Brentwood team.

It took a spirited effort for the full 80 minutes for Windward, ranked No. 4 in the latest CIF Southern Section Division 6 poll, to upset the No. 1 Eagles.

WINDWARDS HELD BY MALIBU

In Saturday's non-league battle, the visiting Malibu Sharks soccer squad scored a close 1-0 triumph over the Windward Wildcats.

The Sharks (4-2) will now prepare for their battle against Pacifica (Oxnard, CA). The Tritons come into the non-league battle with a 1-1 record. In their last battle, Pacifica St. Bonaventure (Ventura, CA), 2-2, in a non-league battle.

The Wildcats (1-1) will now prepare for their battle against Paraclete (Lancaster, CA). The Spirits come into the non-league battle with a 1-3 record.

TRY OUT FOR WINDWARD SOCCER

With interest in soccer at an all-time high, the Windward Soccer Club may find itself in an enviable position in the future. Or perhaps it’s the other way around.

Unlike in past years, when Windward players were left to travel to town or Leeward fields to play in the ultra-competitive Hawaii Youth Soccer Association, Windward Soccer Club has seen interest in its teams multiply.

WSC vice president Blayde Hamada expects as many as 200 hopefuls to take part in the club’s upcoming tryouts. Those selected will play for Windward during the HYSA’s fall season.

MORE THAN JUST SOCCER

The Windward Soccer Club Volcanoes do more than kick around a ball: The players have just completed two weekends kick-starting Kailua into a cleaner, healthier place to live.

“To fulfill our commitment for the grant from the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation, we had to give back to the community,” explained Karen Igarashi, the club’s chief fundraiser and soccer mom.“The children decided on what they wanted to do.”

LOVE SIGNS FOR REAL SALT LAKE

HYSA would like to congratulate two former Hawaii Youth Soccer Association members and veteran’s of HYSA’s Olympic Development Program.
Nick Love, a 2007 Punahou School graduate, from Kaneohe Hawaii, was selected in the 3rd round of the MLS Supplemental Draft, by Real Salt Lake. Love attended Gonzaga University in Washington.

Love helped lead his Windward Soccer Club & Kailua FC teams to 4 US Youth Soccer Far West Regionals after winning the Hawaii State Cup while also participating in the HYSA Olympic Development Program.

WINDWARD IN THE SURF CUP

The Windward Soccer Club's Volcanos, made up of boys 10 and younger, will compete in the San Diego Surf Cup in July.

The boys recently won the Hawaii Youth Soccer Association Presidents Day tournament in which nine teams competed.

The win made them eligible for the San Diego competition, which is one of the three top-rated tournaments in the United States.

Youths from around the world are expected to compete.

The boys on the Volcanos live in Kailua and Kane'ohe.
